McKinney-Vento Homeless Education

McKinney-Vento Homeless Education

High Island ISD is committed to ensuring that students experiencing homelessness or housing instability have equal access to a free and appropriate public education.

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act provides educational rights and protections for children and youth who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. Eligible students may qualify for support with school enrollment, transportation, school supplies, and other educational needs.

Families experiencing temporary housing, doubled-up living arrangements due to loss of housing or economic hardship, motel or hotel stays, or other unstable housing situations are encouraged to contact the District for confidential assistance.

Our goal is to remove barriers to enrollment, attendance, and academic success.
